Why we're here
Slower toys, for a wilder childhood.
We started Wattle & Wood because the toy aisle had stopped making sense to us — walls of plastic, batteries, and characters that do the imagining for a child instead of leaving room for their own. We wanted something slower: real timber, honest materials, toys built to be climbed on, chewed, dropped, and eventually handed down rather than landfilled.
Chosen, not just stocked
Every piece earns its place.
We're a small, Australian-owned team, not a marketplace reselling whatever's cheapest to drop-ship this month. Before anything goes up on the site, someone here has asked the same questions a parent would: what's it finished with, will it survive a two-year-old, and is this actually open-ended play or just a louder, pricier way to keep a screen's attention?
That means our range is smaller than a big-box toy aisle, and deliberately so. Solid timber over painted composite. Non-toxic, plant-based oils over anything we'd have to look up the safety data sheet for. Natural fibres for the soft goods and clothing. If we wouldn't hand it to our own kids, it doesn't go on the site.

What you can expect
Four things we never compromise on

Made for real play
On the floor, together — that's the whole idea.
Open-ended toys don't come with an instruction manual because they don't need one — a rainbow stacker is a tower one day and a bridge the next. We'd rather build things that invite a parent down onto the rug than ones that don't.

Got a question before you buy?
Ages, materials, dimensions, a gift that needs to arrive by a certain date — email us and a real person here will answer, not a bot. We're a small team, so it's genuinely us reading it.
